Mallrats 2 News: Shannen Doherty and Jason Lee Join the Cast
Kevin Smith's Long-Awaited Sequel Gets Two More Stars
Mallrats 2, the long-awaited sequel to Kevin Smith's 1995 cult classic, has added two more stars to its cast: Shannen Doherty and Jason Lee. Doherty, best known for her roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, will play Brandi Svenning, the mother of Brodie Bruce's (Jason Mewes) son. Smith teased Doherty's casting on Twitter, writing, "Welcome to the party, @Shando! #Mallrats2."
Lee, who has starred in Smith's films such as Dogma and Cop Out, will play Tripp, a character described as "a wealthy and successful businessman who is Brodie's rival for Brandi's affections." Smith revealed Lee's casting on Instagram, posting a photo of the actor on set with the caption, "Welcome back, @JasonLee! #Mallrats2." Mallrats 2 began filming in October 2022 and is expected to be released in 2023.
Doherty and Lee Reunite with Smith
Doherty and Lee's casting marks a reunion with Smith, who directed them in Mallrats. Doherty played Rene Mosier, Brodie's love interest, while Lee played Brodie's best friend, T.S. Quint. Smith has said that Mallrats 2 will follow Brodie and T.S. as they navigate their lives as adults and deal with the pressures of parenthood.
