Amanda Knox: Final Remaining Conviction Upheld

Another Trial Lost in Italian Court

Slander Case Related to 2007 Murder

Amanda Knox, an American woman who was convicted and then exonerated of murdering her housemate while studying in Italy, has lost another trial in an Italian court. The court upheld Knox's final remaining conviction stemming from the murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007.

Knox was convicted of slander in 2013 for comments she made about Rudy Guede, a man who was convicted of Kercher's murder. Knox denied making the comments, and she appealed the conviction. However, the appeal was rejected by the European Court of Human Rights in 2023.

Knox has always maintained her innocence in Kercher's murder. She was initially convicted of the crime in 2009, but that conviction was overturned on appeal in 2011. The Italian Supreme Court upheld Knox's acquittal in 2015, but the slander conviction remained.

Knox's return to Italy for the slander trial was her first time back in the country since her acquittal in 2011. She is now a 36-year-old mother of two small children.
